#IMadeMyMark: What United Independent Movement candidates have to say

Which service delivery problem in your ward (area), which hinders the rebuilding of the ward’s local economy, will you address first and how?

As part of its role to inform our readers, the Express publicly invited the ward candidates in the relevant wards to answer one question: which service delivery problem in your ward (area), which hinders the rebuilding of the ward’s local economy, will you address first and how?

The United Independent Movement’s candidate responded as follows:

Ward 23’s Phillip Mc Callum:
“The aim of service delivery improvement would be to ensure that stakeholders’ needs are duly met within my jurisdiction to prioritise the role of building the economy. This will be done by serving our community with honour, treating our people with dignity and preserving our land with pride and gratitude.

“Currently, there seems to be interference and political manipulation, corruption and a lack of accountability. Councillors need to be accountable to the communities that elected them into this position.

“Several wards in and around OR Tambo International are the gateway into South Africa, which are in urgent need of road and underground utility upgrades.

“Service delivery problems with regards to water, sewer and electrical supply, condition of our roads and municipal infrastructure need to be addressed with immediate effect, as this affects not only Ekurhuleni but the South African economy.

“Having someone who has the understanding of managing improvements and who follows up on projects should have the support of the community.

“Community projects are also a must for improvement, growth, development and cleanliness of residential areas. This needs to be addressed with passion and pride by local residents together with their ward councillors.”
