Gospel artist talks about her upcoming live DVD recording
Gospel lovers are in for a treat with the upcoming live DVD gospel recording.
The Thembisa resident Divine Sibiya is a gospel performer who aspires to make a mark in the industry, both in South Africa and across the border.
Her primary purpose is to use music to strengthen the church of Jesus Christ, touching and transforming lives one note at a time.
“We went to church as a family. There was a woman named Goodness who used to worship so passionately that it touched my heart.

“She would not look at the crowd and would even cry on the ground. She was a product of my father’s ministry at the time when he was a worship leader.
“From the first time our Sunday school instructor invited me to lead a song, something was born in me. This is what sparked my interest in the genre.
“It’s all about using music to tell your unique narrative in gospel music. So to become a good gospel singer, I had to believe in what I sang. And there’s a lot in the music that everybody can relate to. Themes of love, peace and the desire to be a better person, to name a few,” said Divine.
“This is why I decided to make a live recording session. I enjoy singing since I feel that my voice may inspire others. People who are listening hear and understand my words, whether consciously or unconsciously. My aim is to have a voice that has the power to elicit a specific emotion in someone.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to be able to inspire someone with your voice during a live performance.
“I enjoy performing because of the exhilarating storms and overpowering pleasures it brings, as well as the joyful feelings of euphoria and thankfulness it brings, as well as the occasional bouts of post-show sadness. The thrill of it. The burst of adrenaline.
“The natural urge to perform above and beyond your ability, as well as the pressure, are pleasurable experiences. Performing in front of an audience helps my mind grasp that no matter how hard you try, every day will not be your day. Performing allows me to realise my actual potential and pleasure.”
