Ward 104 councillor plans and vision

Lourenco shares her plans and vision for the ward.

DA Ward 104 candidate Tracey Lourenco was re-elected to serve as a ward councillor for another term.
Lourenco shares her plans and vision for the ward.
Q: As the re-elected ward councillor, what do you hope to achieve during your term as ward councillor?
A: I will strive to keep the pressure on the various departments to ensure regular and a much higher standard of service delivery in areas. I will avail myself to residents to assist where possible on the many WhatsApp groups and verbal communication.
Q: What plans do you have overall for your ward?
A: Norkem Park pan will stay one of my most serious concerns. I will continue to work through the Human Rights Commission until every resident in Pikkewyn Avenue is satisfied with the outcome and solution expected from the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).
• Birch Acres (Bergrivier Drive and Kwartel Road); clean up the area and ensure EMPD assists in moving the vagrants and taxi’s from this area and relocate them to a more suitable area.
• EMPD precinct in Edleen to be completed as soon as possible.
• A fence for Esther Park and Kempton Park West along the Zuurfontien Road.
• St Andrew’s Driving Range which has been standing idle for over five years.
• To ensure officials are accountable to residents and that our ward can be beautiful and clean once again.
• Street lights attended to within a reasonable time.
• Keep good relationships and communication with the departments.
• A clean and functional area we can once again be proud of, also looking at the current policies with regards to the standards of parks.
• Ongoing refuse removal concerns of non-collection on allocated days.
• Illegal dumping.
Q: When looking at your plans and promises when you were elected in the previous term, how much of your plans materialised?
A: It has been a difficult past two years, with many of the departments using Covid-19 and PPE as excuses for non-service delivery. This is now no longer an excuse for departments and a high standard of service delivery will be a basic requirement. Successes were ensuring the closing down of two shebeens, which we will be monitoring very closely.
Q: Are there any issues that were not completed in the previous term? How do you plan to work on completing these?
A: Norkem Park pan: homes flooding with sewer is ongoing and we are waiting for a geological report and a way forward.
• Numerous street lights reported several times that the department claims they had technical difficulties.
• Illegal buildings in most areas need to be addressed as most of these issues take years before they get on the court roll for action.
Q: What will you do differently as a ward councillor this time around?
A: I will address matters via the platforms available to me: city manager, MMCs and HODs. I will consider all options available if basic service delivery is not met. IDP process: I will communicate this process with the residents with my ward committee and ensure residents are informed of the process of what the top five priorities are for the ward.
