South Africans went to the polls on November 1 to cast their votes during the 2021 municipal elections.
Kempton Park residents also went out in numbers and made their mark as they elected their ward councillors for the new term.
The DA ward councillor candidate, Amanda Davison, was reelected as Ward 15 councillor and she shared her vision for the ward during her term.
Q: As the reelected ward councillor, what do you hope to achieve during your term as ward councillor?
A: My vision during this five-year term is to promote a clean ward with no litter lining the streets and parks. Return to getting the basics done, by ensuring regular refuse-collection and litter-picking, uninterrupted water and power supply, as well as improved communication with officials, where all residents receive updates and most importantly, for residents to contact me with their issues.
Continuous and improved communication, not only on daily service delivery but also on educating all citizens on political structures. As children, we were taught to ‘not talk politics’. I believe we should educate ourselves and our children on how to have a civil conversation about how politics affect every aspect of our lives. Information gives you power.
Improvement of all service delivery in the ward and the whole of Ekurhuleni.
Q: What plans do you have overall for your ward?
A: As I was elected In August 2019 (mid-term councillor), I took over the Ward 15 IDP from 2019. I will endeavour to fight for the Ward 15 IDP. The ‘five items wish list’ to be completed include:
• Elgin Road bridge: Finalise the pothole project, including subterranean drainage and signage on all three incoming roads (including illegal signboards)
• Sewer and stormwater system: Rehabilitation of the Birchleigh system was initiated in late 2021. It is a major project that we as a community will drive to finalisation.
• City planning and environmental health: Continue highlighting illegal buildings in residential areas and illegally run businesses
• Illegal dumping/littering: Identify dumping spots, educate residents on reporting these and
• Safety: Educating residents on CPF to establish a stable SAPS and CPF relationship
Q: When looking at your plans and promises when you were elected in the previous term, how much of your plans materialised?
A: No promises were ever made.
Q: Are there any issues that were not completed in the previous term (please list them)? How do you plan to work on completing these?
A: As I was elected in August 2019 (mid-term councillor), I took over the Ward 15 IDP from 2019. I will endeavour to fight for the Ward 15 IDP. Some of the “five items wish list” to be completed include:
• Finalise the fence between the P91 and Silverleaf
• Create and continue the ‘plant wall’ on the Silverleaf fence
• Rehabilitation of Elgin Road bridge embankments
Q: What will you do differently as a ward councillor this time around?
A: I will continue working for and with the community, as I have been since 2019.
