Ward 13 has a new councillor: Bulelwa Ngqwangi

Newly elected Ward 13 councillkor, Bulelwa Ngqwangi, has identified key points of focus for her ward.

Following the recent local government elections, Ward 13 remains an ANC ward with Clr Bulelwa Ngqwangi as the councillor.

Kempton Park has eight wards with eight ward councillors and Ngqwangi is the only newly elected ward councillor as the other seven councillors were re-elected.

Ngqwangi comes into the councillorship taking the reins from Ndala Sibanyoni.

Q: As the newly elected ward councillor, what do you hope to achieve during your term as ward councillor?
A: Continuous maintenance of our roads network within the ward.
• Constant and sustainable grass cutting.
• Advocating for the creation of more EPWP jobs in particular for the youth and women.
• Installation of stormwater infrastructure in areas that lack within the ward such as Birch Acres Extensions 23 – 44.
• Revitalisation of recreational facilities within the ward and ensure less vandalism.
• Lobbying for the scrapping of historical debt for needy households.
• Ensure prompt response on complaints such as blocked sewerage, electricity supply interruption and other maintenance issues.

Q: What plans do you have overall for your ward?
A: Enjoyment with the local community and ensure constant feedback on issues raised.
• Raising issues of importance to the ward at council.
• Ensure proper oversight on delivery of services by departments in the ward.

Q: Are there any issues that you have identified in the ward already, that haven’t been attended to for years? How do you plan on dealing with these?
A: Provision of social housing for backyard dwellers.
• Operationalisation of the library at Birch Acres to service Extensions 23 – 44.
• Maintenance of streetlights and potholes.
• Completion of the school building in Birch Acres.

Q: What can the residents/community look forward to from you as a ward councillor?
A: Will lobby the municipality, in particular, the Human Settlement Department, to prioritise the development of social housing to accommodate back yard dwellers either as rental or low-cost housing.
• Engage with other relevant departments to address matters related to the library at Birch Acres and maintenance of streetlights and potholes.
• Engage the provincial government to resolve matters that fall within its competency such as the completion of the school building in Birch Acres.
• The residents of Ward 13 can expect to have a councillor who will, at all times, be available to attend to their challenges and also provide constant feedback on matters raised.
