The event aimed to educate young girls and women, empower and groom them to be young responsible and independent women who can self-identify.

The audience was also educated and entertained.

The event featured different categories, including gender-based violence (GBV), which had the crowd go silent.
The contestants came to the stage and lit candles and held a moment of silence to honour victims of GBV.

According to Charmaine Malele, founder of TK Modelling, it was important to have this category as part of the pageant because they wanted to raise awareness and educate the audience about GBV.

“The contestants learnt about what is happening in the country. It was important for us to integrate the category into the event. We wanted people to be aware of the effects of GBV.

“The participants raised a variety of social issues, including rape, physical assault, depression and more.

“This has helped the teenage contestants to be more aware of things that may not affect them directly or might have forgotten about. It also taught the little ones about the signs of GBV, they will grow up aware of such things and they won’t bottle up the situations,” Malele said, adding that the pageant aimed to foster a generation of young responsible adults who are powerful in their own right.

“This pageant looks to educate a girl child about her body and menstrual cycle and how to handle her first cycle. It also focuses on teaching a girl child how to carry herself as a young woman who believes in her strength.

“We believe sports and arts could be used as tools that could empower a girl child. The winners will engage in several community initiatives. We had one child per school to represent their school.”

Other categories for the event included sportswear, swimwear, evening dresses and career.
