Power update: Power expected to be restored on Tuesday

Several parts of Kempton Park have been without electricity since January 21.

Update on January 24 at 21h20:

City of Ekurhuleni stated that the joints on the 66kV network are almost done whereafter the cable will be vacuumed for about 12 hours to remove any moisture.

“Oil is then pumped into the cable and if no further faults are located, it will be ready to take load.
Work is ongoing on the fault between Spartan and Van Riebeeck Park.
Components for the repairs on the step-down transformer have arrived and are being installed. This will go on throughout the night and tomorrow morning, whereafter testing will be done.”

Estimated restoration is Tuesday, 20h00.

City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) says power in Kempton Park’s affected areas is expected to be restored on Tuesday (January 25).

“Due to unforseen circumstances the estimated restoration time for the power outage is Tuesday 25 January 2022. All efforts are being put to restore power sooner.

Repair work will continue until supply is fully restored,” read the statement posted on Facebook.

Several parts of Kempton Park have been without electricity since yesterday afternoon.

It is now over 24 hours since the areas experienced blackout at around 14:00 on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) on Facebook, Spartan has now also been affected.

Further internal damages have (been) found on the step-down transformer being repaired by the team. This has resulted in delays to the restoration process. The Spartan area has been affected due to ongoing tests on the network. Work will however continue until the power is restored to residents. At the moment we do not have Estimated Restoration Time,” read the statement.

CoE also reported in a statement also published on Facebook about five hours ago that the power outage is is due to a fault on one of the networks.

“The City is working around the clock to restore power to areas in Kempton Park, that have been affected since yesterday afternoon.

Two faults have been found so far on the 66KV network, and a team is already busy with repairs. Work continues to identify any other faults on the line.”

• Glen Marais
• Allen Grove
• Aston Manor
• Kempton Park Extension 4
• Parts of Pomona
• Nimrod Park
• Bonaero Park
• Kempton Park West
• Birch Acres
• Van Riebeeck Park
• Edleen and Terenure

The City apologises for the inconvenience ccaused.

Ward 104 councilor Tracey Lourenco said the next update will be provided at 21:00.
