The organisation is a youth-led education NGO that works with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to address disparities and deficiencies in the South African educational system.

The group provides vital programmes, including after-school tutoring, career assistance, mentorship and life skills programmes, to high school learners in five provinces on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

According to Michael Thema, branch coordinator of IkamvaYouth Ebony Park, the organisation works with Grade Nine to 12 learners in and around Ivory Park.

“We help them better their academic potential and access post-schooling options. This is made possible by the efforts of volunteer tutors and funders who have given countless hours and dollars to help our learners succeed,” said Thema.

“We want to empower young people by giving them the chance to get a good education. As a result, we create a level field for underprivileged young people, ensuring they have access to the same job prospects as privileged youngsters.”
