This comes after a message, which circulated on social media, related to the recent unfortunate incident that occurred in the local society.

The message narrated the loss the society experienced due to a three-day power outage.

“There was no power in the area from January 12-14 and on the first day, we kept being hopeful that the power would come back but it never,” said Kira Sparrow, manager at Kempton Park SPCA.

“As a result, we lost a significant amount of vaccinations and food for our staff, which was all in the fridge.”

The message that spread throughout social media was not from the local SPCA.

“The post was from a well-meaning member of the community. We only saw the post on the Friday and it went far and wide,” explained Sparrow.

“The public was really amazing as, following the post, we received lots of food donated for the staff, which ensured they received decent meals. People were really kind.”

Kira also mentioned that although the aim is to get donations consistently, they appreciate the fact that the community does really come to the society’s rescue.

Dog and cat food was also donated and one such welcomed donation is that from the local bikers clubs.

Linda Vorster, from the Ravens Bikers’ Club, said she also saw the post about the incident on one of the CPF WhatsApp groups.

“When I saw the post, I raised the matter during one of our meetings as bikers and we assisted,” said Vorster.

“Within a week, we had collected lots of dog and cat food and were ready to deliver it at the local society.”
Vorster also encouraged others to donate to the society and said it could also be a healthy competition.

“We encourage people to also assist with donations; look what the bikers did for the animals. Let us see if you can top it.”

Dog and cat food was also donated.
