Sinqobile excels in the radio studio
Sinqobile Masondo has always dreamed of becoming a radio DJ.
Radio DJ Sinqobile Masondo from Thembisa envisioned a career that would appeal to music fans all across the world.

“My uncle, Gift Mdunge, introduced me to radio when I was 14 years old. He encouraged me to apply for the Y-academy, but I was unable to do so owing to my age. This did not deter me from my plan and desire of become a presenter.
“I knew I had to find a way to make this dream a reality,” she told Thembisan.
“In 2019, I volunteered at The Voice Of Thembisa FM. I persevered, soaking up all the information I could and applying it wherever I had the opportunity.
“Zulu news reader Busisiwe Khumalo gave me a lot of insight. It was a fantastic chance for me since it allowed me to get out of my shell and rekindle my interest for reading the news.”

When she approached the last year of high school in 2020, her parents decided that she needed to take a vacation from radio and focus on schoolwork.
“It didn’t stop my love and enthusiasm for radio. Every morning on my walk to school, during my free periods at school, lunch breaks, and even after school, I continued to listen to the radio. I also used this time to research different news anchors and their skills so that when I returned to the station, I could build my own style and methodology.
“I got work at Mbono Radio, an online radio station based in Thembisa. This is when my passion for radio blossomed immensely since the management provided me with the opportunity to put all of the knowledge and training I’d been accumulating over the previous few years to good use,” said Masondo.
