For those interested in taking part, auditions are being held at Tayst Eats in Esselen Park and Phomolong Secondary School until March 12.
Contestants must be 18 to 24 years old, South African citizens and originally from Thembisa, Ivory Park, Ebony Park, Kempton Park and Clayville.
Event organiser Mohau Matinketsa said they want to empower women.
“Those who have participated in the pageant have been empowering young women and encouraging them to give back to the community in a variety of ways since its inception.
“The Miss Thembisa organisation supports many NPOs in the community and the development of the youth in Thembisa through various initiatives, such as clothing drives, motivational presentations and stationery drives.
“The pageant is significant because it has a good impact on Thembisans’ lives. We inspire young girls to believe in themselves, to stay focused on achieving their goals, and becoming successful.
“We also encourage them to become involved in community services. As soon as they join the Miss Thembisa family, they become role models. We want Thembisa citizens to fly our flag proudly, and that begins with empowering the girl child,” said Matinketsa.
