Local church helps victims of Thembisa’s flooding
Residents of Thembisa who lost their homes because of excessive rains were helped by Zoe Embassy Global.
Heavy rains and flash floods on February 18 left Thembisan residents distraught, with some people unable to sleep in their homes.

Significant rains resulted in buildings being demolished and food ruined.
Some residents have been relocated to temporary shelters.
Zoe Embassy Global helped families whose informal houses were flooded, and the team worked tirelessly to meet the needs of those who have been homeless because of this incident.
Bread and tea were distributed by the church.
According to Past Patrick Mhlongo, the church’s founder, members of the congregation were motivated to lend a hand to support the residents by organising a food drive, which helped many family members and in some instances restored hope.
“It is tough for them to get meals since they lack financial resources. It’s unfortunate that some family members still don’t know where they’ll be staying. The majority of the residents have lost their homes, others have lost faith in the neighbourhood after witnessing how unsafe it is for their families,” he said.
“Residents of Thembisa are encouraged to help. They will likely find boots, scarves, caps and coats that they no longer wear, and this is an opportunity to put them to good use. The children who will receive them will be overjoyed.
“A small gesture like this can have a significant impact on someone’s life. We won’t be able to overcome the problems that the informal settlement faces without the help of the community.
“Zoe Embassy Global thanks the community and political leaders, as well as government officials, who were present to see, share and support in this gesture,” said Mhlongo.
