Reader says free water allocation needs revision

"This allocation has however remained but the limit of R750 000 did not increase in proportion to the increased valuations."

Editor – I was pleased to read on page five of the February 24 Kempton Express edition that CoE has acknowledged that the valuation process is faulty and will do all within its power to ensure the correct outcomes are reached for property owners across Ekurhuleni.

A related issue is the free water allocation of six kilolitres.

This allocation was offered to homeowners with a valuation of R750 000 or less, before the recent valuations.

This allocation has, however, remained, but the limit of R750 000 did not increase in proportion to the increased valuations.

I would imagine a more realistic figure of R800 000 would have been more appropriate.

There are many pensioners with properties that were valued under R750 000 who relied on this free water allocation but have lost it because of the increased valuation that was set.

It would be wonderful if CoE could revise this free water allocation limit.
