What makes lawn bowls great is that it is a sport suitable and apt for abled and differently-abled people.

Avion Park Bowling Club, South Africa’s first established, seven rink rhino turf bowling club is incredibly proud to announce another great tournament specifically targeted at differently-abled people.

By differently-abled, this means a person who has an impairment that produces functional limitations, restrictions in activities or has a social handicap.

April 16 to 18 will afford all differently-abled bowlers a chance to showcase their bowling talents whilst at the same time meeting other bowlers from around the country.

“This tournament is the first of its kind in South Africa given that no differently-abled bowls tournament has even been played on rhino turf in the country before,” said Cobus Galloway, chairperson of Avion Bowling Club
Lawn bowls is one of the few sports where able-bodied and the disabled can compete together on equal footing by the nature of the sport.

Most disabled bowlers belong to and play in able-bodied clubs and competitions and are not in any way restricted to a field of disability.

This bowling tournament includes any pair of bowlers (two people) of which one person must be differently-abled.

It will run over four days and starts at 09:00 daily including teas and lunches as well as braai packs available in the evening.

Cost per pair to enter this tournament is R900 per person and inquiries can be made with Wally Duncan on 076 861 3407.

Accommodation options are available for those who may need them.

Avion Park bowling club is situated at 58 Deodar Street, Pomona, Kempton Park.

This event is not to be missed with the total prize value amounting to R34 000 where first-place winners will take home R18 000, second place will receive R10 000 and third place R6 000.

Avion Park Bowling Club has a deep appreciation to actively grow and promote the game of bowls across all portals hence the launch of this incredible tournament.

Avion Park Bowling Club moved its premises with a vision to add immense value to the bowling fraternity by building South Africa’s first seven rink rhino turf bowling green.

Over R2.5-million was invested into the club’s vision, with further plans of building more greens to grow bowling in South Africa as well as to grow the club.

“Already the entries received are from bowlers outside of the Gauteng province including some Commonwealth participants,” said Wally Duncan tournament director.
