Ekurhuleni’s USAR members help in KZN

Station manager Bafana Masilela, shift manager Pusetso Mosia, firefighter Sithembiso Khoza and firefighter Ngwasheng Choene joined a teams from across South Africa to put their skills to the test.

Last week, four members of DEMS Urban Search and Rescue team joined the rescue efforts in KwaZulu-Natal.
Station manager Bafana Masilela, shift manager Pusetso Mosia, firefighter Sithembiso Khoza and firefighter Ngwasheng Choene joined teams from across South Africa to put their skills to the test.
They are all trained in a variety of rescues including swift water, confined space, wilderness, structural, trench and high angle rope.
DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi said the City was proud of its officials who will make a significant contribution to the disaster-stricken province of KZN.
“City of Ekurhuleni’s emergency services are at the forefront when it comes to USAR specialisation. The course modules are acquired in the DEMS training academy in Boksburg,” he said.
The City`s rescuer teams have previously participated in various local and international rescue missions involving earthquakes, tsunami and floods.
