Man in custody for possession of Eskom cables

Suspect arrested by Ekurhuleni District’s Trio Task team.

Eskom’s cables were again targeted by criminals on May 26 when authorities apprehended a Kaalfontein man in Ivory Park.

Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson Captain Ben Matimulane said the man was processed by the detectives from the Ekurhuleni Districts Trio Task Team for possession of stolen cables, later identified as Eskom property.

“The suspect was found in possession of a three-metre cable by Eskom employees and the metro police,” said Matimulane.
Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander at the Ivory Park SAPS, warned, “Scrapyard owners must stop buying these items as they create a market for illicit goods to flourish while the rest of the population suffers due to power cuts.”
