Learners at Ecaleni and Thembinkosi LSEN school hosted a three-day market day to promote the work they do at school. The market day was from June 1 to 3 at Tembi Mall.
Learners from Thembinkosi and Ecaleni LSEN schools hosted a three-day market day at Tembi Mall, Igqagqa section, in Thembisa.

Supported by the City of Ekurhuleni social workers, People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), National Association of Car Wash Operators (NACWO), SAPS, Love Life, Gauteng Association of People with Disabilities (GPAPD), Design Education Forum of SA (DEFSA) and Ekurhuleni faith-based organisations, learners showcased some of their products to potential customers from June 1 to 3.
Teacher at Thembinkosi LSEN School, Naomi Selepe, said the purpose of the market was to raise awareness about learners from special education schools.
She said the event was to educate the community and promote the products that learners from special needs schools produce at school.
“The reason why this event was started was for people to understand the situation that goes on at LSEN schools.
“We wanted to expose the work that children from LSEN schools do so that people in the community can know that even children from special education schools have talent,” said Selepe.

Mosadigape Mafora, a teacher at Ecaleni, said the school’s obligation was to help prepare the learners for work and expose them to the business environment.
“The learners are in the exiting phase, which they have been in for three years.
“This is where we prepare them for work placements and also prepare them to open their own business so that they can be empowered with basic business management skills,” Mafora.
