Local artist prepares to release more songs

The upcoming EP has various sounds and elements such as soul and a little bit of RNB, but it's definitely a Hip-Hop EP for the hip-hop heads.

Twenty-five-year-old Ntsako Chauke AKA That Township Suburban Essence is preparing to release his extended playlist (EP) titled 13:40.

The Birch Acres resident started his music career at the age of 19 in 2016 and said he always knew he would be a rapper.

“I’ve always known that I would be an artist, since primary school.

“And how the concept of the EPs title came about was how I resonated with the saying ‘time is of the essence’ which also connects to my name and how I want to make music that is essential but also timeless,” said Chauke.

That Township Suburban Essence recently took a turn in his creativity when he released an amapiano freestyle which, to his surprise did well in terms of reception.

“I’ve done a couple of freestyles that are on my YouTube channel to showcase my skill on different international beats.

“My biggest highlight was the time I released an amapiano freestyle titled 66 dance freestyle about two months ago and the response I received has been amazing,” he said.

“Although the 66 dance freestyle is doing well, there’s room for improvement and room to expand in all areas.

“There is more I can do to gain more traction and more listeners because a lot is coming from my side.”

The versatile rapper who is also a big fashion trendsetter said his music style was inspired by hip-hop artists Kid X and Ginger Trill.

He hopes to work with the hip-hop giants soon and says he will never cease to fulfil his ambitions.

“In the next five years, I want to be known as the most successful international artist who proudly represents the South African culture.

As much as I am an upcoming artist, creating music is an absolutely mind-blowing experience for me.

“I live by the philosophy that says, ‘someone out there is busier than you working on the same idea that you want so badly, so what is your excuse?’, and everyone who has the same ambitions as me should never give up on their dream.

“We will all make it one day,” said That Township Suburban Essence.

“The upcoming EP has various sounds and elements such as soul and a little bit of RNB, but it’s definitely a hip-hop EP for the hip-hop heads.”
