Former Olympian partners up with Hospice
At the swim, Hospice will have hot chocolate, tea, coffee and doughnuts on sale for those brave enough to take the plunge.
With the relaxation of lockdown restrictions, Hospice East Rand announced the return of its annual fundraiser, the Polar Plunge.
“It’s been a long two years without any fundraising opportunities but we’re so excited that the country has been given the green light to be social again,” said Jonquil Siepman, marketing and media liaison for Hospice East Rand.
This year the Polar Plunge is expected to be better than ever as SAs former Olympic swimmer Doug Erasmus joins forces with the NPO.
It will also be a hybrid event meaning the plunge will be both a virtual and a live event this year.
To do the plunge community members will need to purchase a ticket from Hospice.
The live event:
Doug Erasmus will join Hospice East Rand on August 20, from 09:00 to 12:00, at St Benedict’s College's Indoor Pool in Bedfordview.

The virtual event:
The virtual plunge can be done anytime between August 19 and August 21.
Jonquil said Hospice East Rand understands that jumping into cold water is not everyone’s cup of tea.
However, there are still ways community members can support the organisation.
“The good news is you can still buy a ticket and be entered into the draw for our awesome sponsored prizes to be won.
“The more tickets you buy, the better your chances of winning.”
Step 1 – buy your ticket

Use PP and your name as the reference when you pay.
Step 2 – take the plunge
Take your polar plunge wherever you want to. With Doug Erasmus, in your pool, a lake, a dam or even the bath or shower.
You can do it on your own or in a group Hospice East Rand doesn’t mind.
Step 3 – upload your proof
Upload your photos or videos on social media using the #HERPolarPlunge so Hospice East Rand can see your plunge.
