Shabangu and her family erected a tombstone in May 2021.

She was at a loss for words when she found a piece missing from the tombstone at Bredell Cemetery.

According to Shabangu, no one could provide answers on why the tombstone was vandalised.

“I spoke to a woman at the cemetery offices who was very rude and unhelpful. I was told to claim from my insurance for something at a cemetery that is supposed to have security in the first place,” said Shabangu.

She alleges the cemetery has been without security for months, despite being told that cemetery employees close the gates at the end of each day.

“I have on several occasions witnessed the cemetery to be open with no security guards in sight.

“What is frustrating is that the employees at the office are not keen to help and send us from pillar to post,” said Shabangu.
