Thembisa author launches a new book

Motsedi Mojalefa Maja is a social activist, humanist, feminist, philanthropist and a freethinker.

The author recently launched his new book Religious Bait: The World Under Siege, which is a collection of thoughts that discover the impact of religion in the world.

He particularly provides evidence from the religious conflicts and tensions that took place after the arrival of the European nations, along with missionaries and dogmas that did not resonate with African spirituality.

Maja said the book offers light on how racism, wars and organisational and religious violence have impacted the helpless and vulnerable black populations around the globe.

“I read several religious texts and doctrines, which motivated me to learn more about religion and spirituality, particularly how religion affects our day-to-day activities.

“I was searching for the true meaning of religion, its origins, and the reasons why people of other religions adhere to them.”

Maja said that the book argues that by rewriting history and practising African traditional practices like Kemetic spirituality, an urgent spiritual awakening through African indigenous knowledge systems, Sankofa and Ubuntu, needs to be internalised.

“It is important for the African diaspora to understand how artificial religions have harmed the diaspora’s social and mental well-being.

“The abandoning of spirituality has given religious organisations room to practise their beliefs that dismantle the social fabrics of the world.

“It is somewhat trite but sadly true, to say that more wars have been waged, more people are killed, fraudsters and con artists enjoy the religious bazaar and religious perpetrators get away with violence.

“These days there is more evil perpetrated in the name of religion than any other institutional force in human history,” said Maja.
