Ekurhuleni water storage at critically low level

The City of Ekurhuleni said last week that water storage levels remain critically low due to high water consumption and Rand Water’s stage 2 restrictions.

The City appealed to residents to reduce water usage to enable reservoir levels to recover.

Various measures to improve the reservoir levels were also employed.

Included in the measures are a reduction of water pressure in areas with high consumption and closing of outlet valves at night to allow the reservoir levels to build up.

The city has said it will prioritise all major burst pipes and leaks to contain water losses.

As of Tuesday last week, the following reservoirs are experiencing low pressure to no water:

• Central Reservior – 0.0%

• Knoppiesfontein Res – 0%

• Sunny Ridge – 0.48%

• Sunnyridge – 1.4%

• Daveyton Res – 10%

• Voggelfontein – 11%

• Primrose – 16%

• Etwatwa x9 – 18.74%

• Russel – 22%

• Kwa-Thema 2 Res – 33.04%

• Kwa-Thema 1 Res – 35.83%

• Etwatwa EXT 19 Res – 39%

• Cossins Road Res – 43.87%

• Cossins – 44%

• Sallies – 45%

• Kempton West – 50%

Residents are reminded of the prohibition of irrigation between 07:00 and 17:00 and stringent enforcement of water supply by-laws regarding illegal connections, water use and any other water-related contravention.

Water tankers were dispatched to provide water to the affected areas.

Residents are encouraged to fix leaks in their properties, and to report leaks and pipe bursts on the municipal water reticulation network on 0860 543 000, My CoE App or social media platforms.
