Gender-based violence awareness held in Thembisa
Residents embarked on a walk against GBV denouncing gender-based violence and femicide and also distributing pamphlets.
Various police entities joined forces with the Bophelong Empilweni Community Project, Rebohle Security & Projects, Thembisa ward councillors, Thato One Big Family, POWA, the department of health and brigades to walk against GBV on November 11.

The walk took place from Thafeni Park and participants handed out pamphlets.
The walk ended in the Endulwini Section of the Bophelong-Empilweni Centre, where Ms Mavis, the founder and Joy Monaledi, a representative of the health department, shared the stage and discussed topics related to health and well-being, which are a major cause of GBV.
“Cancer is a sickness that needs to be taken seriously as it attacks young and old, both male and female. Everyone has a duty to test for cervical, breast or prostate cancer,” said Joy.
Joy further explained how Thuthuzela Care Centres and POWA operate.
Rebohle security and projects director, Noah Muleya, said he felt honoured to be part of the event.

“These are the kind of opportunities I want to use, to talk to the youth drowning in substance abuse.
“This war needs us as a community to hold hands and fight this pandemic together,” said Muleya.
Constable Asnath Makgupya reminded the community that it is the time of the year when residents get their bonuses and other money.
“We are yet again this year asking residents to open bank accounts for those lump stokvel sharings. Never withdraw big amounts of money, but rather transfer your received money.“
