Local scrapbooking winners announced

The hobby group’s organiser Ellen Harmse said the workshop only made it through the Covid-19 pandemic by hosting events over WhatsApp.

Scrapbooking enthusiasts recently showcased their 2022 creations at the monthly scrapbooking workshop.

The Appelyard-mother-and-daughter duo, Jane and Esther, was selected as the first and second-place winners.

The hobby group’s organiser Ellen Harmse said the workshop only made it through the Covid-19 pandemic by hosting events over WhatsApp.

“It’s sometimes difficult for people to understand how we did it. We sent instructions by email and then during the workshop, each member had an open WhatsApp line and communicated by messages and pictures.

“That is how the club survived those trying times,” Harmse said.

Since February last year, the group has been back hosting in-person events in the auditorium of the Birchleigh North Library.

Scrapbooking events are held one Saturday every month.

Participants only pay for some refreshments but are asked to bring along their own materials and tools.

The next event will take place on February 18 and there are still a few spaces available.

Anyone interested in joining the group can contact Ellen on 072 594 9050 or email eharmse@mweb.co.za.
