The late Nelson Mandela’s remark inspired the alumni to give back to the community.
According to one of the Alumni’s Twenty Cenenda, the way a society treats its children can reveal more about its values than anything else.
“We agreed to reconnect annually as graduates from the late 1970s and 1980s, but with the social duty of giving back to the community because we enjoyed the reunion so much,” said Cenenda.
“As former teachers, we reasoned that helping the students in need in the Ekurhuleni area would be a good thing to do. Then we decided to give it to the primary schools.
“We were very touched to see learners receiving shoes, especially given that they were in need and we are thankful to the school for giving us the chance to return the favour.”
