National Shutdown: Violence erupts as Kempton protesters face taxi associations in CBD

The situation turned violent when rocks were thrown and Express journalists on the ground reported hearing several guns shots. 

EFF Kempton Park protesters have entered the Kempton Park CBD were they were met by the members of various taxi associations.

According to intern journalist, Nobukhosi Tshabalala protestors attempted to go into the taxi rank but were stopped by members of the various taxi associations.

Weapons including sjamboks and guns were drawn by members of the taxi associations.

The situation turned violent when rocks were thrown and Express journalists on the ground reported hearing several guns shots.

Law enforcements officers were called in to calm the situation and protesters agreed to not interfere with the operations at the taxi rank.

Thembisa 

The Express has received reports that one car was torched in the area and the situation remain volatile.

Thembisan Journalist, Lynne Ndlovu reports that police officers in Thembisa were called in to assist with protesters in Kempton Park.
