Local NPO embarks on a clean up campaign
The NPO is building itself to maintain its suburb's infrastructure as well as community safety and the well-being of residents alike.
Members of the NPO, Bon 3, recently embarked on a clean-up campaign in Bonaero Park Ext 3.

Bon 3 is a safety initiative, which is dedicated to the betterment of the community.
Residents who form part of the group take control of the area they live in and preserve and protect their suburb.
According to the chief whip of the organisation, Cheryl Heyden, a community standing together and supporting each other can do great things and achieve more.
“During one of the latest campaigns our goal was to cut the grass along Atlas Road and clean up the roads,” she said.
The vlei area between Carp Road and Daeraad Street was also cleaned on the day.

Residents then focused their attention on beautifying the Daeraad Street cul-du-sac.
“We also made sure there was some fun for the children.
“We planted ‘mushrooms’ in the children’s play area and had the children come through to paint their hands on them.
“Additionally, we have installed LPR cameras in the area so that any suspicious-looking vehicles can be immediately identified and monitored,” said Heyden.
The group also recently purchased a tractor with a grass-cutting attachment and the necessary equipment to maintain their parks.
Although the group is nearly three years old and only caters for Bonaero Park Ext 3, the committee members hope to grow the initiative into other extensions in the Bonaero Park area.

“The aim was to be proactive in securing our community.
“We want to restore our neighbourhood into a safe and secure suburb where we can live in peace and allow our children to play safely.
“Our biggest concern was the degradation of our area through failing services such as our grass not being cut and maintained which as a result created many hiding spots for criminal activity.
“By cleaning and maintaining the area we have created a safe environment for families to enjoy, for the community to get to know one another as well as opened up the area so any unwanted elements can be spotted easily,” said Heyden.
Bon 3 boasts 11 committee members all residing in Ext 3 with 76 contributing members and 268 members on their WhatsApp group.

“It is always nice being out in the sunlight and fresh air working towards the betterment of the area, however, we would appreciate it if more residents would get on board and come and assist and make it a fun day.”
The group holds clean-ups once a month and focus is given to areas that need it the most.
