EFF and locals clean up illegal dumping in Bredell

“We will continue to honour him by doing clean-up campaigns because he died while protesting for service delivery.”

A clean-up campaign, named after Andries Tatane, was led by EFF provincial deputy chairperson Phillip Makwala on April 15 in Bredell.

Tatane was killed during a 2011 service delivery protest in Ficksburg.

EFF party members and residents joiined hands during the clean-up campaign targetting illegal dumping sites in Bredell.

According to Ward 16 deputy chairperson Elly Mashiane, Tatane’s family still awaits justice.

“We will continue to honour him by doing clean-up campaigns because he died while protesting for service delivery.”

The party rented excavators to remove a large pile of refuse.

They were supported by community members in their efforts.

Mashiane said the campaign will ensure that residents stay in a clean environment.

Community members joined the campaign.

“Illegal dumping is a hazard to the people’s lives. Every ward is responsible for a clean environment.

“We have engaged with the municipality for more resources to address illegal dumping,” said Mashiane.
