Ekurhuleni crime blitz nets 288 suspects, closes 11 illegal shebeens
288 suspects arrested during weekend operations by SAPS in Ekurhuleni.
A total of 288 suspects were arrested and 11 illegal shebeens shut down during crime prevention operations conducted across the Ekurhuleni District from July 24 to 26.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole expressed her appreciation to SAPS members and law enforcement partners involved in the operations, saying their efforts contributed towards improving safety in communities.
Of the suspects arrested, 138 were apprehended by detectives across the district in connection with contact crimes, serious crimes and gender-based violence-related cases.

Other arrests included suspects allegedly involved in driving under the influence of alcohol, tampering with essential infrastructure, drug-related offences, possession of drugs and immigration-related offences.
In Thembisa, an intelligence-driven operation led by SAPS Thembisa Visible Policing (Vispol) members, together with Ekurhuleni District Crime Intelligence, resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old man at Maokeng Section on July 24.
According to SAPS, the suspect was arrested at about 10:45 for alleged drug dealing and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Police said the firearm’s serial number had been filed off.
The suspects are expected to appear in court to face the charges against them.
Sithole commended SAPS members and other law enforcement agencies for their continued efforts in conducting crime prevention operations and protecting communities across Ekurhuleni.
