Suspects nabbed during Operation Shanela in Ivory Park

Of the 215 arrested suspects, 66 were arrested for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Operation Shanela, led by the SAPS, alongside other stakeholders, took to the streets of Ivory Park recently for a roadblock and saturation operations.

The operations yielded many positive successes.

The officers arrested five suspects for dealing in drugs, dagga and illicit cigarettes.

During a roadblock held along Republic Road, they issued 92 traffic fines to the value of R31 750. Additionally, they also closed down three liquor outlets.

Detectives from Ekurhuleni turned the tables on wanted suspects when they arrested 215 suspects across the jurisdiction of the district’s 39 police stations.

Of the 215 arrested suspects, 66 were arrested for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A further 47 people were arrested for common assault and four for murder and one for rape.

SAPS checked if cars were roadworthy.

 

Others were arrested for tampering with essential infrastructure, house burglary, house robbery and theft.

In Ivory Park, 20 suspects were arrested.

The Ekurhuleni deputy district commander, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, was on the ground to oversee the operation.

“We attended to ensure that everything runs smoothly. We also checked vehicle roadworthy compliance, goods transported and materials bought into the area.”
