Drunk and uncooperative driver nabbed in Thembisa

“A registered nurse was called to collect blood from the driver as part of the evidence.”

Officers from the EMPD arrested a 27-year-old man on April 14 for not cooperating with the authorities during a roadblock operation in Tsenelong Section.

While conducting the roadblock, officers noticed an approaching white KIA light delivery vehicle (LDV).

The driver of the vehicle disobeyed a red traffic light and the vehicle was stopped.

Officers approached the driver and requested the driver hand over his driver’s license.

“On closer inspection, officers picked up a strong smell of alcohol. A breathalyzer examination was conducted and the driver was made aware that he was over the legal limit,” said EMPD spokesperson, Marie Mashishi.

She said the driver became hostile and called officers names before he was placed under arrest and marched to the Tembisa South Police Station.

“A registered nurse was called to collect blood from the driver as part of the evidence.”

Mashishi said the suspect is facing multiple charges.

“The tipsy motorist is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, crimen injuria, interfering with police duties, intimidation and resisting arrest.

“The apprehended suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.”

The White KIA LDV used during the commission of the offences was impounded at the EMPD Thembisa Precinct.
