Divers recover two bodies in separate incidents in Thembisa

The second body recovery from contaminated water was completed this morning with the help of a K9 Search and Rescue team.

Divers from the Ekurhuleni Water Policing and Diving Services recovered the bodies of two men in Thembisa this week.

On Tuesday, August 6, at around midday, divers were deployed to the Kaalspruit River in Ivory Park.

The body of a man with gunshot wounds was recovered from the river.

The following night on August 7, officers were called out to Ngwasheng Street, Hospital View, Thembisa.

The body of an unknown man was floating in contaminated water at the bottom of a deep trench.

“Due to the high risk of the steep sides collapsing and working in the dark, the recovery was called off until this morning (August 8),” said Rapid Response Services spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.

“With assistance from K9 Search and Rescue they walked downstream to gain access into the bed of the trench.

“Officers then walked back upstream to recover the body and carried the victim out on a Stokes Basket (stretcher),” said Giblin.

He added that in both incidents, the bodies were handed to the detectives and the Local Criminal Record Centre members on scene for further investigation.
