Man (30) dies in crash on R24

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the 30-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

A 30-year-old man was declared dead following a crash on the R24 early this morning, August 8.

Officers from the EMPD responded to the scene near Edenvale.

“On arrival, officers were informed that paramedics had declared the man dead,” said City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

The cause of the crash is unknown and will form part of a police investigation.

“Preliminary investigations have, however, revealed that the driver of the car which was travelling on the R24 freeway direction west from the OR Tambo International Airport, lost control of the vehicle,” said Dlamini.

He added that the man was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

“Officers from the EMPD Accident Reconstruction Unit were summoned, to the scene.

“The flow of traffic was heavily affected, especially towards the airport.

“A case of culpable homicide was registered at the Edenvale Police Station,” said Dlamini.
