Van Riebeeck Park mom kills two-year-old daughter, self

Preliminary investigation revealed that the child was strangled while the mother's throat was slit. A suicide note was found at the scene.

A 30-year-old Van Riebeeck Park mother killed her two-year-old daughter before taking her own life this morning, September 13.

According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira, police officers responded to a call and found the grizzly scene.

“On arrival, members of the Van Riebeeck Park CPF informed the police that the lifeless body of the two-year-old was in the shower and a female with multiple wounds was lying on the floor,” said Ferreira.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the child was strangled.

“The mother had slit her own throat using utility blades,” added Ferreira.

She said paramedics declared both dead at the scene.

“A suicide note was found,” said Ferreira.

Both bodies were taken to Germiston mortuary.
