94 arrested, 39 vehicles and one firearm recovered

SAPS operations led to 50 arrests for serious crimes including possession of suspected stolen property and murder.

Between November 8 and 14, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 94 suspects, recovering 39 motor vehicles and one firearm.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 50 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle and murder.

Other crimes include pointing of a firearm, attempted murder, malicious property damage, driving under the influence of alcohol, contravention of a court order, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of counterfeit goods, illegal immigrant and domestic violence.

A total of 39 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with ten arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

One unlicensed firearm was recovered accompanying one arrest.

In further policing, 33 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
