Despite intensified efforts from SAPS, supported by the EMPD, Crime Prevention Wardens, and patrollers, the recent tragic killing of a 13-year-old boy in the Isekelo Section highlights the severity of the situation.
On the night of the incident, the young boy was asleep in his bedroom when two suspects broke into the family’s home, firing random shots and fatally wounding him.
According to the family, the tragedy unfolded when the boy’s great-uncle noticed people tampering with his Isuzu bakkie parked outside the yard.
Thinking they were trying to steal the car radio, he shouted to scare them off.
Instead, the suspects turned aggressive, charging toward the house and firing shots.
The man managed to lock the door, but the suspects kicked it open.

Once inside, they ordered everyone to lie down and took the vehicle’s keys.
During the chaos, a single gunshot struck and killed the 13-year-old boy.
The suspects fled the scene in the stolen bakkie.
The family rushed the boy to Thembisa Hospital in a private vehicle, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Thembisa SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit has extended support to the grieving family by connecting them with the Department of Social Development.
Special attention is being given to the two minor children who witnessed the horrifying ordeal. Authorities aim to provide counselling and assistance as the children prepare to sit for their final exams in the coming days.
Brigadier Nkuna reiterated the importance of community collaboration in combating crime.
“We need residents to be proactive in forming and joining sector forums, neighbourhood watches and other safety initiatives. Together, we can reduce incidents like these and create safer communities.”
As the Thembisa SAPS intensifies its crime prevention efforts, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
