Edleen Community Crime Forum gets a boost

Local crime fighting forum adds CCTV cameras as part of its ammunition in the fight against crime.

The Edleen Community Crime Forum (ECCF), a non-profit organisation, was officially launched on February 3 to combat crime and improve safety in the community.

Originally formed last year October, ECCF was established with the mandate to enhance security and reduce crime in Edleen and surrounding areas.

In an interview with Kempton Express, ECCF chairperson Willem du Plessis shared how donations have enabled the organisation to purchase advanced AI-powered IP technology for CCTV monitoring.

“Thanks to our collaboration with Himax Security, the cameras are monitored 24/7,” said Du Plessis.

“We also have an armed response vehicle stationed in Edleen to provide immediate support.”

The ECCF has also developed a dedicated emergency response app in partnership with neighbouring forums in Birchleigh and Van Riebeeck Park.

“The new Buzzer Community SOS App allows residents to report emergencies, such as medical incidents, motor vehicle accidents, suspicious activity, and fires, with key security companies in our area assisting,” Du Plessis said.

“The app also includes the SafeTrack function and an ICE (in case of emergency) information facility.”

Edleen Community Crime Forum and Himax Security Group are committed to fighting crime in the area.

Du Plessis emphasised the forum’s vision is becoming a reality through partnerships with local security companies and emergency responders, including Himax Security, Guards Must Be Crazy, MotoTrack, Super Cops, Sec Pros, and Alpha Security.

“Our next phase includes identifying additional intersections for AI CCTV installations in Edleen, Birchleigh, and Van Riebeeck Park,” he said.

“Thanks to the financial support from the Buzzer app and our partnerships, we aim to broaden our impact across these areas.”

Du Plessis thanked all donors, security companies, and emergency responders who have joined the initiative.

“We encourage residents to join our CPF groups, download the Buzzer Community SOS App, and have reassurance in the added safety for themselves and their families.”
