Suspect to face charges of attempted murder after mall attack

According to information received the suspect became aggressive and allegedly pulled out the knife he used to stab the manager twice.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at Festival Mall in Kempton Park this afternoon, January 17, following an alleged stabbing incident at a store.

Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego confirmed the incident, stating that a woman had visited the store to exchange clothing but could not provide a receipt.

“When the staff informed her that they could not process the exchange without proof of purchase, her boyfriend demanded to see the manager,” said Ditshego.

According to Ditshego, the man became aggressive during the confrontation.

“He allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the manager twice in the upper body,” she added.

Emergency services were called, and the manager was airlifted to hospital for treatment.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and will face charges of attempted murder.

“The suspect is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Ditshego.
