124 arrested, vehicles and firearms recovered

Rapid Response held various operations which resulted in several arrests and recoveries of vehicles and firearms.

Between January 10 and January 16, Rapid Response Services comprising of Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 124 suspects and recovered 43 motor vehicles and seven firearms.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 48 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, housebreaking, contravention of protection order, theft, illegal immigrant, fraud, contempt of court, driving under the influence of alcohol, defeating the ends of justice, pointing of firearm, murder, shoplifting and possession of unwrought gold.

A total of 43 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with four arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Seven unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying eleven arrests.

In further policing, 61 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
