Serial killer Rosemary Ndlovu case postponed to June 5

The case, involving claims of hitmen, life insurance, and a failed assassination, was postponed to June 5 for further investigation.

Convicted serial killer and former police officer Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu appeared in the Kempton Park Regional Court on May 22 alongside her former colleague, Nomsa Mudau, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.

The case was postponed to June 5 for further investigation.

Advocate Malotane told the court the State intended to secure additional information and call a third alleged hitman to testify.

Should this not be possible, the defence indicated they would consider filing a Section 174 application, which could see the charges dismissed due to insufficient evidence.

Ndlovu, formerly stationed at Tembisa Police Station, and Mudau, who served at Norkem Park Police Station, are accused of conspiring to kill Mudau’s ex-husband, Justice Mudau.

During a previous court appearance, the matter was postponed for a possible Section 174 application.

On April 8, one of the alleged hitmen, Lakhiwe Mkhize from Tembisa, testified that Mudau had contacted him directly and met with him alone.

According to Mkhize, the plan to carry out the murder fell through after the hitmen warned the intended target, Justice, about the plot.

It is alleged that Mudau had promised to pay the hitmen using proceeds from a life insurance policy she had taken out in her ex-husband’s name. However, instead of carrying out the killing, the hitmen tipped him off.

Mkhize told the court he had never met Mudau before the arrangement and claimed it was Ndlovu who informed him about the meeting.

When Advocate Malotane asked Mkhize about a payment he allegedly received from Mudau, Mkhize said he was handed R3 000 at her home.

However, when asked if that amount was meant for petrol, Mkhize responded that he was unaware of such a detail.

“I believe Mtshali – another alleged hitman – kept the petrol money for himself because he was the one who arranged the car,” said Mkhize.

He said he was not aware of any other payments related to the alleged plot.

“I gave Mtshali Mudau’s cellphone number while we were at the hostel because I was ignoring her calls. She later called Mtshali and asked why I wasn’t answering,” Mkhize testified.

“She also told Mtshali that she had given me R3 000 for the mission to kill her husband.”

Malotane said Mtshali had previously testified, detailing how the murder was to be carried out. Mkhize confirmed this and added that the instructions were very clear.

“I only knew where to find Justice. Mudau told us what time he got home from work and gave a description of his car. We were promised R15 000 for killing him,” said Mkhize.

Malotane asked if he knew “the Venda guy,” to which Mkhize responded that the man was his neighbour.

“I was the one who suggested we go to Musanda because he speaks the same language as Justice. But Justice didn’t want to hear anything we were saying about his wife,” he said.

Malotane also told the court that Mudau claimed Mkhize contacted her unexpectedly, asking to meet at Mooifontein Cemetery. She allegedly expressed surprise and questioned how he had obtained her contact information.

Mkhize denied this, saying there was a misunderstanding and that Mudau’s version was out of line.
