Gauteng police seize firearms, stolen cars in major crackdown

Rapid Response services held successful operations which led to 120 arrests, recoveries of 39 vehicles and four firearms.

Between May 23 and May 29, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 120 suspects, recovering 39 motor vehicles and four firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 76 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, rape, kidnapping and malicious damage to property, theft of motor vehicle, shoplifting, intimidation, impersonating a police officer, illegal immigrant, murder, armed robbery, house burglary, carjacking, sexual assault, defeating the ends of justice, business breaking, contravention of protection order and theft.

A total of 39 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, with eight arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
Four unlicensed firearms were recovered, accompanying seven arrests.

In further policing, 29 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigation continues in all cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
