Speeding crackdown: Seven motorists nabbed by EMPD

The EMPD appeals to motorists to adhere to speed limits on roadways as speeding is one of the major contributing factors to road fatalities in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Between June 16 and 18, officers from the EMPD High-Speed Unit arrested seven motorists, including a biker, for exceeding speed limits in Kempton Park and Springs.

The motorists, aged between 20 and 45, were caught travelling above the 60km/h and 80km/h speed limits during law enforcement operations where officers used high-speed monitoring equipment to check compliance.

Among the vehicles pulled over were a grey Mahindra station wagon, a black Kawasaki motorcycle, a green Audi coupé, a grey Kia Sonet, a blue Nissan Qashqai, a silver Kia Picanto, a white Kia Cerato and a silver Jaecoo.

The motorists, who failed to provide satisfactory reasons for exceeding the speed limits, were arrested on the spot, with video footage serving as evidence.

They were detained at Kempton Park Police Station and are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.

The EMPD has appealed to motorists to adhere to speed limits, reminding residents that speeding remains one of the major contributors to road fatalities in the City of Ekurhuleni.
