92 suspects arrested, 45 vehicles recovered in Gauteng police operations

A total of 45 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 17 arrests for the possession of these vehicle.

From July 4 to July 10, Rapid Response Services – comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members across Gauteng – arrested 92 suspects and recovered 45 motor vehicles and three firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols throughout the province.

These efforts led to 44 arrests for serious crimes, including assault (common and GBH), possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unwrought precious metal, common robbery, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of illicit cigarettes, armed robbery, shoplifting and theft.

A total of 45 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered, resulting in 17 arrests for being in possession of these vehicles.
Three unlicensed firearms were also recovered, with two suspects arrested in connection.

In further operations, 29 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and Mandrax were among the substances confiscated in separate incidents.

Investigations are ongoing in all cases. The suspects are expected to appear in various magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
