Five suspects arrested in Kempton Park for hijacking, kidnapping and firearm offences

EMPD officers, with Gauteng traffic wardens, arrested five men linked to a hijacking and kidnapping in Kempton Park, recovering a stolen truck, a pistol, and several unlawfully obtained items.

The EMPD’s Northern Region Task Team, together with Kempton Park precinct officers and Gauteng traffic wardens, arrested five suspects on August 27 in connection with a hijacking, kidnapping, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, officers acted on information about a victim who had been hijacked and kidnapped by five men travelling in a white Toyota Corolla Quest.

“While patrolling the area, officers spotted the vehicle dropping off the victim in Kempton Park. One suspect attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended,” said Dlamini.

The arrested suspect cooperated with officers and led them to Isando, where a hijacked Scania truck was recovered.

Three more suspects were found nearby, along with the truck and the Corolla Quest that matched the description of the vehicle used in the kidnapping.

“The suspects further informed officers about a fifth accomplice carrying a firearm.

“Officers proceeded to the address provided, where the suspect attempted to escape but was caught. He was found in possession of a black 9mm pistol,” Dlamini added.

During the operation, officers also confiscated seven vehicle registration plates, six driving licences, three passports, four pairs of gloves, three reflective jackets, three work suits, four different car keys, and two SAPS dockets believed to have been unlawfully obtained.
