Mozambique’s most wanted kidnapping for ransom kingpin, known as “Dollarman”, was shot and killed by officers from the SAPS’ Kidnapping Task Team this afternoon, September 3, in Kempton Park.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed at the scene this evening that the suspect was actively sought by police and was linked to a spate of kidnappings for ransom in both Mozambique and South Africa.

She said that in South Africa, investigators have connected him to at least nine cases – five involving kidnapping for ransom, while others include housebreaking, theft and hijacking.

Mathe confirmed that a warrant of arrest had been issued for him and that he was on Mozambique’s most wanted list.

The scene near the Voortrekker Road remains heavily cordoned off, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
