Former Kempton Park hairdresser pleads guilty to murder
Hattingh said that she and Greeff knew each other and sometimes shared a room. She also detailed the events of the day he was murdered.
The murder trial of former Kempton Park hairdresser Denise Hattingh continued today, October 1, when she appeared briefly in the Kempton Park Regional Court to enter a guilty plea.
Hattingh’s lawyer, Obed Lewete, read her plea to the court, confirming that she pleaded guilty to murder under Section 51(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977.
According to the plea, on May 15, 2024, at a property on West Road, Pomona, Hattingh unlawfully and intentionally killed Jacobus Marthinus Greeff, a 30-year-old male, by tying his hands and feet with an electrical cable, and placing a plastic bag in his mouth, preventing him from breathing.

The cause of death was confirmed as applied pressure to the neck, consistent with ligature strangulation.
Hattingh admitted that she had no consent or justification for killing Greeff and acknowledged that the chain of custody of the body from the crime scene to the forensic laboratory in Germiston was not disputed.
Greeff’s body was examined by Dr M Nkosi, forensic pathologist, on May 16, 2024, who confirmed the cause of death. These findings were admitted as exhibits in court.
