Gauteng rapid response arrests 135, recovers stolen vehicles and firearms
Between September 22–27, Gauteng’s Rapid Response Services arrested 135 people, recovered 28 stolen vehicles, and seized 14 firearms during operations targeting crime and drugs.
Gauteng’s Rapid Response Services, comprising the flying squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol members, arrested 135 people, recovered 28 stolen vehicles and seized 14 firearms.
The members conducted operations, vehicle checkpoints and patrols, leading to 70 arrests for crimes including assault and GBH, possession of stolen property, driving under the influence, theft out of a motor vehicle, robbery, domestic violence, use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent, pointing a firearm and house burglary.
Officers recovered 28 hijacked and stolen vehicles and made 13 arrests for possession of them. Additionally, they recovered 14 unlicensed firearms, resulting in 12 arrests.

In further policing, there were 40 arrests for possessing and dealing in drugs, which saw heroin, dagga, crystal meth, cocaine, and Mandrax confiscated in separate incidents.
Investigations into all these cases are ongoing. The suspects will appear in various courts.
Between September 22 and 27, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested eight people and recovered drugs and a vehicle.
On September 23, members patrolling Yaris Street, Etwatwa, near the Phumulani Cemetery, noticed a white Isuzu double cab driving recklessly.
They pulled it over, arrested the 38-year-old driver after finding 15 large bags of compressed dagga on the back seats, and detained him at the Etwatwa SAPS. The dagga and vehicle were booked in.
In the early hours of September 26, members arrested a 22-year-old in a grey Haval on the corner of Reservoir and Van Dyk roads, Boksburg.

The vehicle was sought because it was taken without the owner’s permission, and the SAPS sought the driver for malicious damage to property and assault.
Members arrested six people in separate incidents for possession of drugs.
The areas involved: Ivory Park Ext 7, Voortrekker Street, Elsburg, the Bhangalo Squatter Camp, Buhle Park, Langaville, Tsakane, confiscating Mandrax, crystal meth, nyaope and rocks (cocaine).
In further policing, officers recovered an abandoned hijacked white Nissan NP200 on Mahlangu Street, Chris Hani, Daveyton. It was reported on a Daveyton case.
Investigations are ongoing in these cases.
The suspects will appear in the local courts facing charges of possession of and dealing in drugs, use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent, malicious damage to property and assault.
