SAPS divers recover two murder victims in water incidents

Ekurhuleni WPDS members assisted K9 Search and Rescue at Jerusalema squatter camp in Boksburg, using high-angle equipment.

SAPS divers from the Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) responded to two water-related incidents across the province, recovering two murder victims between September 29 and 30.

Members of the Tshwane WPDS were called to a river at Extension 10, Soshanguve, Akasia, where a body was reported floating.

On recovery, officers observed signs indicating a murder had taken place. Akasia SAPS took over the scene to conduct further investigations.

On September 30, Ekurhuleni WPDS members assisted K9 Search and Rescue at Jerusalema squatter camp in Boksburg, using high-angle equipment and rope techniques to recover a murder victim from an old collapsed incline mineshaft.

A member was lowered approximately 15 to 20 metres into the site to secure the body in a stokes basket before it was hoisted out. Boksburg SAPS were on scene to continue with further investigations.

Both cases remain under investigation by the respective local SAPS stations. Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact their nearest SAPS station or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
