Gauteng Police arrest 82 suspects, recover 37 stolen vehicles

From October 3 to 9, Rapid Response Services comprising the flying squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 82 suspects, recovered 37 motor vehicles and two firearms.

Rapid Response Services, comprising the flying squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 82 suspects, recovered 37 motor vehicles and two firearms from October 3 to 9.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 24 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft, illegal immigrant, possession of a jamming device and housebreaking.

A total of 37 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, with 10 arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Two unlicensed firearms were recovered.

In further policing, 48 arrests were made for the possession and dealing of drugs. Heroine, dagga, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and mandrax were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Continuing operations, from October 6 to 12, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested five suspects and recovered drugs.

Members arrested two suspects in separate incidents for possession of drugs during operations in Elsburg around Voortrekker Street on October 6 and 7. Crystal methamphetamine was recovered during these arrests.

During an operation in Edenvale on October 8, members arrested a foreign national at Edenvale taxi rank, and recovered 21 zip-lock plastic bags containing dagga.

On October 12, a 58-year-old man at a supermarket in Petit was arrested for possession of sixteen cartons of illicit cigarettes

Another suspect was nabbed at the Etwatwa off-ramp N12 for pointing a firearm after a member of the public identified the suspect.

Investigation continues in these cases. The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
