Arrests and vehicle recoveries as police intensify crime operations

Gauteng law enforcement arrested 100 suspects, recovered 38 vehicles and seized 12 unlicensed firearms in high-impact operations.

Rapid Response Services, comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members across Gauteng, arrested 100 suspects and recovered 38 motor vehicles and 12 firearms between July 18 and 24.

The arrests followed a series of concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols across the province.

A total of 46 suspects were arrested for serious crimes, including assault (common and GBH), possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unwrought gold-bearing material, common robbery, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol, being an illegal immigrant, armed robbery, housebreaking, possession of counterfeit money, fraud, kidnapping, murder, bribery, possession of car-breaking equipment, contravention of a protection order and theft.

Police recovered 38 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles and arrested 16 suspects in connection with these vehicles. In addition, 12 unlicensed firearms were seized and 12 suspects arrested.

In ongoing crime prevention efforts, 26 people were arrested for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Substances confiscated included heroin, dagga, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and Mandrax.

Investigations into these cases are continuing. The suspects are expected to appear in various magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
